Room Tour – A Cozy Bedroom Makeover
Over the last few months, my wife and I have been updating our entire place, room by room. We’ve been so focused on creating the perfect workspaces that we neglected the most important area of our home: our bedroom.
While it’s nice to have a space to be productive, it’s just as important to rest. That's why we decided to refresh our bedroom to have a place we could retreat to, when we want to unwind. Watch the video below if you want to see the makeover, otherwise scroll down to see all the details of the bedroom.

The Cozy Corner
The main feature of our new bedroom was our cozy corner. A place to sit in, read, relax, or play the guitar. The centerpiece is a Mid Century Modern accent chair with a black side table next to it. We’ve surrounded this area with plants we’ve collected over the past few years, because this corner gets so much sunlight. Above the chair are a few hanging plants, and a Maple shelf from Grovemade that hosts a few baby Pothos plants we’ve propagated.
The Bed
The bed frame is a beautiful walnut build from BluDot. The model is the Modu-licious Queen Bed that comes with 6 drawers underneath, which come in different colors. We mixed together White and Slate for our drawers.
The mattress is an Avocado Green mattress, which is incredibly comfortable. We use memory foam pillows by Coop Home Goods. They’re thick, fluffy, and have held their form for the four years we’ve owned them. I highly recommend them over any other pillow I’ve ever owned.
The bed sheets are made of jersey cotton which are lightweight, and incredibly soft. For our duvet cover, we chose an avocado green color to compliment the wall and our plants. And to break up all of the solid colors, we added a grey serape blanket on top.
Next to the bed, we have a side table from West Elm I bought second-hand. On it as a beautiful desk lamp by Gantri, which was gifted to me by them.

UPDATE: I’ve recently switched to Linen sheets, which I wasn’t a fan of before. That was until I tried Magic Linen sheets. They’re so soft, cool to the touch, and add a nice texture to the bed. You can check them out here: Magic Linen.
The Art Wall
On our accent wall (paint: “Satin Black” by Behr), we put up two picture ledge shelves, to hold a few books, plants we’re propagating, and a few pieces of art. The idea for these is that we could rotate the items on it to quickly refresh the look of this wall. My favorite piece on here is this beautiful limited edition print from James Jean. I bought it years ago, but never had the perfect spot for it until now.
The Dresser
The dresser is also from BluDot, and is the Series 11 in walnut. On top of that sits my old plasma TV from 2007, and my old Xbox One. A simple setup for late night movies. Next to the dresser is probably my most favorite piece of furniture in the room, because it’s so unique– the vintage coat valet. We bought this a few years ago at Sunbeam Vintage.
The Lighting
An important part of the setup is lighting, for when it gets dark. As you may know, I am deep into the Phillips Hue lighting ecosystem, so it’s no surprise that my bedroom is too. Almost every bulb in this room is a smart bulb that I can control from the Phillips Hue app on my phone. My favorite features are the ability to change temperature and brightness of each bulb, as well as set timers and automations to tie into your sleep or away schedules. These lights can be pricey, so if you buy regular bulbs, just make sure they are rated 2700K or below, if you want that warm, cozy light.
This bedroom refresh took a long time to come to fruition (only because we’ve been so busy throughout last year). But after a few weekends of cleaning up and styling, we finally have a bedroom that’s refreshing to wake up in, and a place to retreat to when we want to just relax.
